The online process of obtaining an import export code in India had two methods earlier. One of it consisted of uploading the documents online and sending their hard copies to the DGFT via courier. But the courier service which can deliver documents to government offices is only India Post. We all know how efficient India post is in delivering the documents. Hence, the delivery of these documents to the government’s office used to get delayed, causing overall delay in obtaining the import export code. With the online integration of the entire process of providing the Import Export Code, there was one more very highly efficient method which was put in place. This method consisted of digitally signing the documents being uploaded in the process. This eliminated the requirement to submit the document’s hard copies to the DGFT via courier. This in turn made the delivery of import export code extremely fast. But, as there is additional cost incurred to obtain the Digital Signature Certificate, applicants seldom used to use this method. This increased the document pile up with the DGFT and delayed the delivery time as well. Thus, this resulted in the optimal usage of the online system for which it was put in place. The DGFT has thus made it mandatory to submit the documents via digitally signing them through the online application system. We welcome this bold move by the DGFT and applaud their initiative to reduce the time in providing the import export code to its applicants. Though the cost incurred for digital signature certificate has made the entire cost for obtaining the IEC a bit higher, the DSC can still be used for other purposes of the company, like filing online government tenders, etc., and its validity is also of two years. We at SunBrio, can provide you the IEC with 48 hours if everything goes smoothly. We also provide the digital signature certificate required for obtaining the IEC, in case you don’t have it.
